Monkeys, Nazis and Bicycles

Escape From Paris - Part 2

Check it:  The author of the Curious George books escaped from Nazis on a bicycle that he built out of spare parts.

And you thought you knew “extreme cycling”.

The Journey That Saved Curious George is a truly original book in the style of a travel journal – full of snapshots, personal letters and official documents.  Although it is about survival during times of war, it describes these serious themes in a way that children can understand.  And illustrates them with charming pen drawings.

Maybe too charming?  At times it makes fleeing Nazi occupied Paris look like a cycling holiday in France.

Here are a few pages for the bicycle fanatic.  They link to full sized images.  If you like them, buy the book at your local indy bookseller.  Or pick it up for free at your local library.  You could also check out the author and illustrator’s web pages.
